Researching the graphic language of affection I became interested in the different ways in which the kiss is conveyed through the immediate text symbols of emojis. The emoji kit is a means of re-creating the instant symbol of affection using the time consuming and reflective practice of embroidery; does the replacement of analogue, craft based communication with instant messaging represent a loss of the essence and definition of the Kiss signature?
This embroidery kit sets out to show how far we have come in ‘sending’ The Kiss, from hand stitching handkerchiefs using a timeline of effort and affection to the touch button instant emoji.
